How many islands should I visit in 8–12 days?
Three is the ceiling for doing it well: Santorini short, one big island (Naxos or Paros) long, and one wild card (Milos or Folegandros). More than three and you are ferry-sitting, not island-living.
When is the sea warmest?
August and September, peaking near 24°C — September is the ideal beach month with crowds gone. June warms fast too; May swims are brisk.
Do I need to book ferries in advance?
High-season fast boats and any route involving Santorini: yes, days-to-weeks ahead. Conventional ferries in May or October can be booked a day or two out, but a booked seat removes the only real stress of island hopping.
