Pacing this route
The Golden Triangle rewards order: Delhi first (the noise calibration), then Agra at dawn for the Taj, Jaipur for the forts, and return. Distances are short but roads are slow — 200 km can take five hours, so the itinerary never promises two cities in one day.
Build in recovery mornings. North India is intense: a slow breakfast and a park hour after each travel day keeps the second week as good as the first.
Fewer or more days
- Fewer days: Delhi (1–2) + Agra (1) + Jaipur (2) is the 5-day core; the Taj deserves the dawn slot and nothing else is mandatory.
- More days: add Varanasi (2 nights by overnight train) for the spiritual counterpoint, or push to Udaipur via Pushkar for the lake-city finish.
Practical tips for this route
- Book trains on IRCTC or with a reputable agent 2–4 weeks out — the popular AC classes sell out, and tourist quota seats exist.
- Carry small notes everywhere: autos, chai, entrance cloakrooms — nobody has change for INR 500 at 7:00 in the morning.
- Dress for temples and mosques: covered shoulders and knees, and shoe-removal is constant — slip-ons are the packing win nobody mentions.

FAQ
How many days for the Golden Triangle?
Five is the minimum that does it justice, seven to ten if Varanasi or Udaipur joins. The itinerary's 7–14 day range covers both extensions honestly.
Is a private driver worth it for the triangle?
For 3–4 people, yes — €40–60 per day buys door-to-door flexibility that trains cannot match, and the Agra-Jaipur leg especially benefits. Solo travellers do better by rail.
Is street food safe?
The busy stalls are the safe stalls — high turnover beats high decor. Stick to fried, boiled or freshly-baked items, skip raw salads at humble joints, and let your stomach calibrate over the first two days.
