🧭 How this planner works

Each suggestion links to the guide’s route choices and booking checks. These are planning outlines, not confirmed departures or prices.

How suggestions are selected

  1. Trip length and budget filter first. A single destination must meet the guide’s suggested minimum and list your chosen budget category. These are editorial planning categories, not a confirmed journey or price.
  2. Interests rank eligible guides. Matching selected interests adds points; not every interest must match.
  3. Two-place suggestions must fit both guides. Both budget categories must match, and each part receives at least its guide’s suggested minimum plus a separate transfer allowance. Real connections still need checking.

Budget categories

The $ / $$ / $$$ labels describe broad planning styles, not daily prices. Results do not retrieve quotes. Use the budget workbook to calculate your own trip.

Interest tags in the data

The selectable interests add weight to matching guide tags. With no interests selected, destinations receive the same small interest bonus; the trip-length and budget scores determine the ordering.

What this planner does not do

If a route looks wrong for you, the guide behind it is the thing to argue with — each one lists its own daily costs, seasons and pacing notes, and that is where corrections belong.

Frequently asked questions

Is the trip planner free, and do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account. The planner is a single front-end page: your days, budget and interests are used in the browser to build the route and are never sent anywhere.

How many destinations does it actually choose from?

Thirty, one for each destination guide on this site. The planner mirrors those guides one-to-one, so any route it suggests can be traced straight back to a full guide with its own daily costs and season notes.

Why did it suggest a country I did not expect?

Matching first checks the guide’s suggested minimum and budget category, then ranks eligible guides by selected interests. A guide can rank well without matching every chosen interest. Two-place suggestions require both parts to fit; read the linked guides and confirm the connections.

Are the costs in the results exact?

No. Results show a selected budget category, not a current daily price. Check actual accommodation, transport and activity prices for your dates, and add flights, insurance, visas and any other exclusions separately.

What happens to my inputs when I close the page?

Nothing is saved. There is no cookie, no localStorage entry and no server call for the planner itself, so reloading the page returns it to the default state.
