Pacing this route
The geography rewards one base: stay in Yangshuo for the whole stay and radiate out — the Li River cruise starts upstream, the Yulong valley is a 10-minute ride, Xingping an easy bus trip. Constant hotel-hopping buys nothing here.
Mornings are the light and the quiet: rafts, bikes and viewpoints all work best before 10:00, with the tour buses arriving as the mist burns off.

- Fewer days: 3 days works — Li River cruise or Xingping raft (1), Yulong valley bikes (1), town, pagodas and show (1).
- More days: add Longji rice terraces (1–2 nights) north of Guilin, best combined with a Guilin arrival day.
Practical tips for this route
- Book the Li River cruise a day or two ahead in autumn and check your departure pier — Zhujiang and Mopan piers sit 40 minutes out of Guilin city.
- Avoid Golden Week (1–7 October): river cabins sell out and the West Street crowd is the year's maximum. Late October delivers the same views with a tenth of the people.
- Afternoon thunderstorms are routine June-August: do rivers and climbs in the morning, long lunches at the heat peak, show tickets for evening.

How many days do I need for Guilin and Yangshuo?
Three covers the essentials; four or five let you add Longji terraces or slow the Yulong days. The itinerary's 3–6 day range is honest — the landscape is compact.
Main boat or bamboo raft?
Main boat for the full Guilin-to-Yangshuo classic with commentary and comfort; rafts for close-up karst on the Yulong or the Xingping section. Many travellers do one of each.
Is Yangshuo touristy?
West Street is — a neon gallery aimed at tour groups. Walk ten minutes in any direction and it is rice fields and water buffalo; the town's reputation undersells its setting badly.
