A ten-day outline with transfer days counted

This proposal follows Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. It uses separate days for arrival, museum visits and intercity transfers. Ten days is the length of this outline; it is not a guarantee that every connection will fit. Start with your arrival and departure tickets, then decide whether the inland sections fit between them.

DayBase or taskDecision before booking
1Arrive in CairoArrival, accommodation check-in and rest; no prepaid major visit tied to arrival time.
2Giza PlateauChoose plateau admission and any pyramid interior separately; allow time for security and transfers.
3Grand Egyptian MuseumKeep the museum visit separate from the plateau. Check the booked entry slot and gallery rules.
4Cairo → LuxorTransfer day. Reserve the actual service before assigning an evening activity.
5Luxor east bankChoose Karnak and/or Luxor Temple after checking opening times and your pace.
6Luxor west bankValley of the Kings and, if time permits, another nearby site. Confirm open tombs and supplements.
7Luxor → AswanTransfer day; choose a confirmed land service or extend the trip for a booked cruise.
8AswanChoose a booked Philae visit or another local activity; confirm boat and transfer arrangements.
9Optional Abu Simbel or bufferOnly add Abu Simbel with a confirmed return plan. Otherwise keep this day for delays or rest.
10Departure from AswanUse a booked departure; an international connection through Cairo may require another night.

A multi-night Nile cruise replaces part of this outline; it cannot be inserted into one transfer day. Get its embarkation point, direction, nights and disembarkation time in writing and redraw the surrounding days. The route planning page explains shorter trips and connection buffers.

Cairo: distinguish the plateau from the museum

Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum are separate visits with separate ticketing. The ministry’s plateau listing distinguishes area admission from additional interiors. Choose what you want to enter before comparing tour inclusions.

The GEM booking page now includes Khufu’s Boats Museum and the Tutankhamun galleries in its stated admission coverage. The old recommendation to pay for the Solar Boat Museum beside the pyramid has been removed. Check current booking coverage and the entry slot rather than relying on an old guide.

Luxor: make a tomb shortlist

The ministry’s Valley of the Kings page identifies the royal burial valley on Luxor’s west bank. Open tombs and additional admissions need a check for your visit. Decide which tombs matter to you, then ask which are included in your ticket or tour. A pass price alone does not tell you the cost of the full visit.

Keep east-bank visits and the west-bank outing in separate blocks. Map your hotel, pickup location and return arrangement before booking an early start. Choose fewer sites if you need more time in shade or a less demanding pace.

Transport: compare the complete connection

Ask for departure and arrival points, operating dates, luggage terms and cancellation conditions. Compare a flight, train, road transfer or cruise using the full door-to-door plan. The previous fixed fares and travel-time guarantees have been withdrawn.

Abu Simbel is an optional extension from Aswan in this proposal. Confirm the return before committing to an onward flight. A separately booked connection needs its own delay plan; this guide cannot establish a safe minimum transfer time.

Regional advice before optional detours

FCDO Egypt advice warns against travel to parts of the country and links to a regional map. Its scope concerns UK travellers; consult your own government too. Advice can also affect insurance cover. Check the exact route of a desert or border excursion rather than treating a destination name as clearance.

The earlier country-wide “generally safe” assurance and percentage reduction in harassment have been removed. For an excursion, obtain the route, operator details, emergency contact and return arrangement before deciding whether to book.

Budget from quotes, not a universal daily rate

Use the Egypt quote worksheet to separate per-room nights, per-person tickets and shared transfers. The old euro price lists and hotel endorsements were not supported by a dated rate survey. Decide which items a package includes before adding extras.

Where to stay: compare the actual addresses

Base to compareCheck before booking
Cairo or GizaMap the property against the airport, plateau and museum; compare the transfer cost for your booked visits.
Luxor east or west bankCheck which side your activities start on and whether a river crossing is needed.
AswanConfirm pickup locations and whether the accommodation involves a boat transfer.

Compare identical dates, occupancy, taxes and cancellation terms. Moving hotel every night creates extra transfers; a fixed base may be more useful than a small room-rate difference.

October 4 correction

The earlier version mixed outdated museum arrangements, unsupported prices and transfer assumptions. Those claims have been replaced with dated official references and explicit booking decisions. The route is a proposal, not a confirmed transport schedule.
